To commemorate the 75 years since the inauguration of the Catalonian Art Museum, the MNAC has programmed an original and essential exhibition: a tour of Catalonian history of art from the Middle Age to the 20th Century, by means of magnificent collection of works from private collections, national and international museums and ecclesiastical heritage. A trip through Romanic, Gothic, the Renaissance, the Baroque, the 19th Century and the first third of the 20th Century. Some of these pieces will be exhibited for the first time, leaving their normal location on private walls, such as the Mejastad of Beget or the Gothic painting of the Virgin of l’Escala by Joan Antigó, also temporarily abandoning their liturgical function. Other pieces will be returning to Catalonia after many years. This is the case of The Sleepy Drinker by Picasso, which is normally exhibited in the Kunstumuseum of Bern or The Farmer’s Wife by Joan Miró, from the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Without a doubt, the best guests of honour for such an important anniversary.
